Father’s Day Gift Guide: Golf gifts for dad he actually wants

Father’s Day is just two weeks away but that gives you plenty of time to get the dad in your life a gift that he’ll truly love. This year, dispense with the bad tie and stroll right past the bath robes. Seriously. If we need a new pair of slippers, we’ll buy some off of Amazon because those types of things are quite low on the priority list for most dads.

Golf gear, however, is always a welcome offering. The official unofficial past time of dads around the globe, golf is a unique hobby enjoyed by millions and whether your padre is a scratch golfer or shoots in the hundreds, we all love getting some new gear to take to the links. The best thing about golf gifts is that you don’t have to spend and arm and a leg to get us something that we really want and will appreciate because you’re buying dad a thoughtful gift to use while he does something that he truly enjoys.

Here at Proof Golf, myself and Robby are both proud fathers and of course, we love golf. So, we put our heads together to come up with a gift guide to help you get your golf dad something for Father’s Day 2023 that he will love and actually use. We know because we’d love to get anything that’s on this list. So, without further ado, here’s our 2023 Father’s Day Gift Guide for the golfer in your life.

Golf Towels

Golf towels are very much like bath towels. You can never have too many and like bath towels, there’s nothing like a high-quality towel to clip to your bag. If your dad is like me, he likes having a nice, name brand towel on his golf bag. Maybe it’s a matter of pride but it instills a bit of confidence to have a towel that matches the brand of your clubs.

That said, I also like to have an inexpensive towel in my bag to use if my clubs get really nasty or I step in some mud and need to wipe off my shoes. For that, having an inexpensive microfiber towel in your bag or on your cart is always a good idea and you can pick these up for as little as $10 for a three pack. If they get messy, who cares. It never hurts to carry an extra towel. As a matter of fact, I was playing a few weeks ago and one guy in my group forgot his towel. Another golfer in the parking lot reached in his truck and grabbed one of his extras and just gave it to my friend. Golfers are cool like that. Whatever your budget, here are some great golf towels to get your dad.

Gloves

Another item most golfers can’t have enough of is a good glove. If your dad plays on the regular, he likely burns through multiple gloves in a single season. Personally, I will wear a glove until it starts to wear holes but some guys like having a fresh, new glove every few rounds. To each their own. The good news is that a quality glove won’t just help your golf game, it will last longer than off brand cheapies. Some golfers, like myself, prefer an all-leather glove and most name brands sell Cabretta leather models. Some guys prefer something with some elastic and nylon for flexibility and ventilation. If you aren’t sure which type your dad likes, just wait for him to go to work and check his golf bag to see what he’s rocking.

Note: If you aren’t sure which hand to buy, never fear. If your dad plays right-handed, he’ll need a glove for his left hand and vice versa if he’s a lefty. Also, if he has shorter fingers, you may want to grab the “cadet” version of the glove you’re buying, if available.

Here are some quality gloves starting as low as $8. I personally use the first one on the list and I absolutely love it. I bought it on a trip to California a few months back and it’s still going strong despite the fact that I hit golf balls at least five days a week.

Phone holder

It doesn’t matter how many rounds of golf I play, I never find a good spot to put my phone in the golf cart. I don’t like keeping it in my bag because I never know when I might want to shoot some quick video but I don’t like just sitting in the tray of the golf cart because it inevitably gets bumped around. Then, there’s the sand. Golf courses have sand and it gets on everything. Few things will scratch the screen of a phone quicker than some fine grain golf course sand.

We have phone clamps for our cars. Why not have one for the golf cart? Yeah, they make those. You can actually find a plethora of them on Amazon and even at your local Walmart but why not get your dad the best of what’s around? The Stripebird magnetic phone holder is still one of the best golf accessories money can buy. It securely holds any size phone and mounts firmly to the frame of the cart so you can keep your phone up and out of the way while having quick access for a call or to use a golf app. Stripebird even sells a magnetic hub accessory that you clip on your bag so your phone, range finder or whatever can go wherever you and your clubs go. Tees

No, I don’t mean a new t-shirt. Golf tees are an often overlooked but absolutely necessary accessory for the on and off course golf. Around here, we love bamboo tees. They are extremely durable and generally outlast traditional wood tees. I go for the all natural ones because white tees have a tendency to mark your clubs. The best thing about bamboo tees? They are very inexpensive. Right now, you can grab 1,000 PGA approved bamboo tees from the Wedge Guys on Amazon for only $28 and it comes with a free poker chip ball marker.

If dad has an indoor set up or a hitting mat he uses outside that takes a traditional tee, the bamboo ones will work just fine. If his hitting mat won’t take a tee, you can get some great plastic tees from Carl’s Place for around $13. the plastic cone-shaped tees are great for simulators and you can cut them down to the size that works best for you.

Club Cleaning Sets

There’s nothing worse than being on the course and getting your clubs all gunked up when you take a massive divot. Sure, you’ve got a towel and you can always clean the grooves of your club with a tee but why not give dad a tool designed specifically to help keep his clubs free of dirt and grime.

There are countless club cleaning tools out there and most of them will work just fine. You just need to find one that has good nylon bristles and preferably some sort of spike or other tool to clean club grooves. If you find a brush that has nylon and steel bristles, even better. Better yet, you can find some very handy cleaning kits around the web that include things like towels, divot tools, ball markers, brushes and more. I’ve listed a few below that I like and would easily recommend.

Golf Balls

Most weekend golf warriors want to play what the pros play and while we’d love to keep a stock of Pro V1s or Chrome Softs in the garage, good balls aren’t cheap. Thankfully, dad has you to treat him to some golf balls that he’ll be proud to use. Lately, we’ve been playing the PXG Extreme balls from Parson’s Extreme Golf and they are absolutely awesome. They’re still premium but at $39.99/dozen, they’re still $10 less than a Titleist Pro V1. If you are a veteran, you can grab a dozen for around $35 with the PXG discount. Lagshot

Regardless of how good or not so good your dad’s golf game may be, there is one training tool that is used and recommended by pros and amateurs alike. The Lagshot is a flexible shaft training club that aides in creating perfect lag in your golf shot. The better the lag, the more pure and long the shot. The Lagshot comes in a wedge, 7-iron and Driver options. If you aren’t sure, go with the 7-iron. It’s the most versatile of the three.
